ABOUT League 152
It starts with Mahjong. It grows through people.
There’s the game you love, and then there are the people it brings into your life. Familiar faces across the table. Students who become friends. Gatherings that become something everyone looks forward to.
League 152 exists to help more of those connections grow. We bring together people who love hosting, teaching, and playing—with the structure and support to turn that shared enthusiasm into a welcoming league community.
HOW LEAGUE 152 BEGAN
I was looking for a community of my own.
I’m a wife, a mom, and a career educator. When my kids flew the nest, I realized it was time to find a community of my own. Mahjong gave me that. What started as learning a game became friendships and a place to belong. Then friends began asking me to teach, and those lessons grew into a community of players eager to keep gathering.
As more people learned, they wanted somewhere to keep gathering. Around that time, a colleague told me how excited he and his wife were to qualify for a tennis tournament. Having grown up as a competitive athlete, I understood that excitement—and started imagining what an ongoing Mahjong league could offer: familiar faces, friendly competition, and something to work toward together.
That idea became a league, then more leagues as other communities wanted to join in. Along the way, I came to believe that a league should offer something people can count on: scheduled gatherings, shared rules, and standings that connect one session to the next. A place where the welcome is warm and the game matters.
League 152 grew from that experience. I wanted to help other teachers and hosts bring it to their communities, with support for the details and fellow Directors to share the experience. Because I know what it means to find your people—and how much joy there is in helping someone else find theirs.
WHAT MATTERS TO US
A warm welcome. A game that matters.
- 01A place to keep coming back. Community grows when people see one another again. A league gives players regular opportunities to share a table, build friendships, and enjoy something together.
- 02Shared expectations. Friendly competition. Playing by a shared set of rules gives everyone a common starting point. Players know what to expect, and the competition means something—alongside the conversation and encouragement around the table.
- 03Support for the people bringing it together. Behind every league is someone who cares about the experience. League 152 gives Directors structure, practical tools, and a community of fellow hosts to help them bring people together.
The name
Every game begins by building all one hundred and fifty-two.
Four walls, nineteen stacks, two tiles high — a whole American set. Your table builds it before the first hand, every time.
